Traveling to Italy

Posted on January, 01 1970

Though many travelers visit Italy in the summer, that time of the year can become very hot and very busy with crowds. Vacationers may prefer to travel to the country in spring or fall, when weather is mild and accommodations will be cheaper. Many visitors to Italy choose to stay in the most popular cities, like Florence, Rome, or Venice, but others choose to stay outside of the major cities. This is sometimes a cheaper option. It is a good idea to get Euros as soon as you arrive in Italy.

Many tourists want to eat in one of Italy’s many fine restaurants, but visiting a local market is a great way to learn about the country’s culture. One major difference between Italy and the United States is that in Italy, it is not necessary to tip after eating a meal. A tip is usually left on special occasions. It is also important to note that many establishments close after the typical lunch hour for a break. Tourists are advised to drink bottled or mineral water. Don’t forget to ask for the check when you are ready to pay; it will not be brought to you until you do.

There is much to see and do in Italy. Though Venice is expensive, it is home to canals and gondolas. Then, of course, there is Rome with all its history and romance. Many tourists are attracted to the ruins of past civilizations and some visit the bars and clubs that the city has to offer. There is so much to do in Rome that many visitors require multiple visits. Florence is home to many popular museums and gelato that tourists crave long after they have returned home. Don’t forget about Sicily. Sicily is a unique piece of Italy known for its talented chefs and warm beaches.

Some museums and popular attractions require visitors to book a space online ahead of time. Keep this in mind when planning outings. As a tourist, remember that many locations may not be photo-friendly. Museums and art galleries may not allow photography at all, and flash photography is a big no-no.
